In 2023, a group of Ambassadors went camping to celebrate the end of our year of mentoring with Action for Conservation (AFC).

Why is it that few Black environmental activists are remembered or showcased compared to their white counterparts?

I wrote this entry for the Black Women in History “Saluting Our Sisters” because I wanted to honor the many Black women throughout the history of conservation work.

There are so many amazing, passionate people working around the clock to save our planet and share that passion with the next generation.

In order to preserve the Earth as we know it, the individuals of this planet must make a conscious effort to make a change. I, Tamar, aged 16 am an activist who is part of that change.

At the beginning of 2023, the AFC team had the privilege of working with a small and wonderful group of young people from Off the Record, a mental health charity based in the South West.

Working with the land and creating growing spaces (even if it’s on your windowsill) is a relatively underrated but absolutely essential part of the solution to the environmental issues we face today.
